Vince Gill Fans the Fire Of Competition [Imus]

October 27th, 2006

✓ October 27, 2006 4:22 AM
Fanning the fire ! How to Compete in the Music Business!
Number of Discs: 4
After many years of collecting music, I listened with great interest when Don Imus MSNBC discussed this 4-cd set by Vince Gill and other great artists ! I looked it up on Amazon and found it is priced at $23.00 ! The list of talent that has joined him is a who’s who’‘ of artist’s that promote good taste in Music !

Product Description
In an unmatched outpouring of virtuosity and energy, Vince Gill has created a 4-CD set of 43 new and original songs that MCA Records will release Oct. 17 under the title These Days. The collection is an artistic tour de force that displays Gill’s mastery of lyrics and musical styles, ranging from traditional country and bluegrass to jazz and rock.

“I started looking at all these songs I had,” the amiable superstar explains, “and going, ‘Shoot, I want to record that song, and I want to record that song.’ I just kept checking with the other musicians to see if they were available. I had no deadlines, no rules or anything like that. So I just kept trying songs.”

To accompany him on this ambitious undertaking, Gill turned both to artists he knew and had worked with before and to those whose music he admired at a distance. “I never try to fill up my records with famous people,” Gill says. “I try to fill them up with the most talented people I can find on the face of the earth.” By the time the project was completed, that group included Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt, Diana Krall, Rodney Crowell, Phil Everly, the Del McCoury Band, Emmylou Harris, John Anderson, Lee Ann Womack, Jenny Gill, Amy Grant, LeAnn Rimes, Gretchen Wilson, Guy Clark, Trisha Yearwood, Bekka Bramlett, Michael McDonald, steel-guitar master Buddy Emmons and many other musical standouts.

Initially, Gill planned to pare down the songs he’d recorded to a single album. Then, in one of the studios he used, he spotted some Beatles memorabilia and recalled that the Fab Four had routinely released multiple albums within the same year.

Gill took the idea to Luke Lewis, Universal Music Group Nashville Co-Chairman, who totally supported his notion of multiple releases. In fact, Lewis came up with an even more radical strategy: he told Vince to go and record more songs that explore his passion for acoustic sounds and release a 4-CD set. And that’s exactly what happened.

Gill co-produced These Days with famed keyboardist John Hobbs and sound engineering whiz Justin Niebank.

(REAL NAME)
A true treasure! The first single, “The Reason Why” from Vince Gill’s new 4-CD boxed set is a taste of what is to follow for future singles of his work. Absolutely great!! There’s only one word to describe Vince’s 4-CD collection - “UNBELIEVABLE”. After the many years of Number One recordings, numerous awards year after year, and the joy Vince’s music has brought, it’s hard to believe he had enough talent in him to write 43 NEW songs to release in a set! WOW - the lyrics and music and talent all in one place from one artist - not just ANY artist - but the best artist - Vince Gill is such a treat for anyone! This is a must have for everyone! In the set, there’s something for all music lovers!

Occasionally I post about real charities ! I just received this email from a retired Nurse ! Below is her e mail and also a letter I wrote to the producer of the Imus In The Morning Show ! I hope someone will forward this mail to: Mr and Mrs Imus !

This is an enquiry e-mail via http://www.all-podcast-secrets.com from: joannemcrgrathx1@netzero.net

Dear Imus and Mrs. Imus,
I’ve been a big fan of your TV/radio show for the last couple of years now. I have Parkinson’s disease and I don’t sleep well at night, so your show has been a godsend. I live in Whitefish Montana, so I’m up by 4am to catch the whole show.
I’m very interested in your ranch in New Mexico and would love to join the staff if you have any openings. I have my own horse and I still enjoy galloping him, so the Parkinson’s hasn’t slowed me down to much. If I take a short nap in the middle of the day, then I can do most anything. I was a nurse (LVN) for almost 30 yrs, so I can be of some help in that department too. I want to be a part of something good and positive with the kids that come to the ranch. I think it’s wonderful what you are doing and I feel that working with these kids would be probably the most rewarding thing I can do in my life. I hope you’ll consider me, I love children, all animals and I feel I’d be an asset to your staff. I have many references if you need to check my history and I’m sure you do that with everyone. Thank you for your time and I will
anxiously wait for your reply. Thank you,
sincerely, Joanne Mcgrath

Can American liberalism rise from Washington’s two-bed brothel to dance with the ghost of Roy Orbison and eat garden tomatoes?

By JOE BAGEANT

Shen2The Shenandoah is not a bar. It’s not a tavern. It’s a beer joint. The kind that does cash-only business and scratches hard for every nickel it turns. And lately, it is about the only place in my life slowed down and dumbed down enough to honestly relax. It takes a couple of hours. Nearly everyone here on this Sunday morning lives or grew up within blocks of the place and feels most at home here — which is not unlike myself, who used to sell newspapers on the corner here at age 12 and who, if the light is right, can imagine that pale, scruffy youngster shouting Paaaaaapers! NoozPaaaaaapers! Such nostalgia eases the frustrated wildness in old men.

This particular beer joint, deemed the seediest in town by good citizens who’ve never even set foot in the place, is operated by Denny, an overweight blonde fellow with breasts and earrings. Denny is going through a sex change and lives every minute of it right up front for a fundamentalist Southern town to ogle.

How to be a Podcaster

MP3 players have changed the way we organise and enjoy our music: the key is
that many of us
have now integrated our music collections with our home computers - and with
the all important
internet. As a result, the new possibilities are endless and it’s the world
of Podcasting that’s
leading the way forward.

Radio shows, TV, short film clips and personal audio and video blogs are all
instantly accessible at the press of a button, to be downloaded and listened
to whenever you want,
on your computer or on a portable player. And anyone with a computer and the
right software can run
their own podcast, available to listeners all over the world.

The word itself is a combination of ‘iPod’ and ‘broadcast’
although there’s nothing about podcasting
that’s exclusive to Apple or its iconic little portable. So what does this
word actually mean?

Firstly, podcasting refers to something more than just a downloadable radio
show. In fact, a podcast doesn’t
have to be an audio recording at all. In short, the word ‘podcast’ refers to
any ’show’ or ‘clip’ thus audio,
video or both together that is made available on the internet using an RSS
feed. This means that you, the user,
’subscribe’ to a podcast, so that whenever the relevant podcaster posts a
new ‘episode’, it will be
automatically downloaded onto your computer by whatever software you use to
organise your podcasts (for example
iTunes if you’re an iPod user).

The latest version of iTunes includes a comprehensive, smooth-running
Podcast section, with an extensive
directory of podcasts for you to subscribe to, including Virgin Radio and
Disney, as well as a huge
number of comedy podcasts, short films and sport punditry.

In order to start subscribing to and listening to podcasts (incidentally,
the word ’subscribe’ doesn’t
mean you have to pay for it as most podcastings are free), you’ll need to
download
some software like iTunes but there are alternatives. The most popular
softwares are Juice and Doppler,
and there is an increasing number of software applications designed to be
used with specific MP3 players.

Podcasting is a two-way thing, and software such as BlogMatrix Sparks or
EasyPodcast from
www.easypodcast.com enables you to create and publish your own podcasts
easily. An audio-only podcast is,
in effect, a very simple thing to produce. There are three basic stages:

  • Use some form of audio recording/editing software to create your audio
    ’show’. For simple-to-use software,
PC users should look at Cool Edit Pro, while Mac users can use GarageBand,
which comes free with Macs as part
    of the iLife software package.
  • Turn your finished audio recording into an MP3 file. Once you’ve
    finished editing your podcast, save
it as an MP3 file using your media player such as iTunes or Windows Media
    Player.
  • Use a hosting site to ‘host’ your podcasts. These will store the actual
    data, and provide you with
a web address and the RSS feed so anyone around the world can easily
    subscribe to your podcast.

And that’s all you need to become a podcaster yourself. For more tips, check
out www.ipodder.org or
the podcasting section of the iTunes music store.

Partial Post From Joe Bageant’s Blog ” Left Behind!” Podcast Secret

August 27th, 2006

One September day when I was in the third grade I got off the school bus and walked up the red dust powdered lane to my house only to find no one there. The smudgy white front door of the old frame house stood open. My footsteps on the unpainted gray porch creaked in the fall stillness. With increasing panic, I went through every room, and then ran around the outside crying and sobbing in the grip of the most horrific loneliness and terror. I believed with all my heart that The Rapture had come and that all my family had been taken up to heaven leaving me alone on earth to face God’s terrible wrath. As it turned out they were at the neighbor’s house scarcely 300 yards down the road, and returned in a few minutes. But it took me hours to
calm down. I dreamed about it for years afterward.

Since then I have spoken to others raised in fundamentalist families who had the same childhood experience of coming home and thinking everyone had been “raptured up.” The Rapture — the time when God takes up all saved Christians before he lets loose slaughter, pestilence and torture upon the earth — is very real to people in whom its glorious and grisly promise was instilled and cultivated from birth. Even those who escape fundamentalism agree its marks are permanent. We may no longer believe in being raptured up, but the grim fundamentalist architecture of the soul stands in the background of our days. There is an apocalyptic starkness that remains somewhere inside us, one that tinges all of our feelings and thoughts of higher matters. Especially about death, oh beautiful and terrible death, for naked eternity is more real to us than to you secular humanists. I get mail from hundreds of folks like me, the different ones who fled and became lawyers and teachers and therapists and car mechanics, dope dealers and stockbrokers and waitresses. And every one of them has felt that thing we understand between us, that skulls piled clear to heaven redemption through absolute self worthlessness and you ain’t shit in the eyes of God so go bleed to death in some dark corner stab in the heart at those very moments when we should have been most proud of ourselves. Self-hate.

Yahoo! Makes a Major Podcasting Play

August 13th, 2006

Yahoo! Makes a Major Podcasting Play
Just as it defined the market for web search a decade ago, Yahoo hopes that it can corner the podcasting market with a comprehensive guide to downloadable audio feeds. Launched late last year, Yahoo’s podcast directory lets users discover new podcasts based on their interests and on other subscriptions in their profiles.

As Yahoo’s podcast portal grows in size, executives at the search giant expect its presence to extend across a number of areas. Relevant podcasts will start to be highlighted along side news reports and incoming e-mail for registered users with a Yahoo account. Even though Yahoo is not creating much podcast material themselves, they’re gambling that providing such a rich experience will keep users using all of Yahoo’s services.

Podcasting is a major part of the strategy spearheaded by Lloyd Braun, the head of Yahoo’s media group. In interviews, the former ABC executive loves to point out the advantage of using podcasts and other rich media to create an alternative to television and radio. With the level of user personalization available on Yahoo’s server platform, Braun and the rest of his team hope to become the top podcast aggregator in a fractured media landscape.

Yahoo’s podcast portal heavily encourages users to post and share their own podcasts. Since podcast producers need access to affordable sound file hosting, Yahoo offers users two options to store files on their own servers. The Geocities service, once jeered at by the web elite, has found new life as a free podcast hosting option. Yahoo users can post their sound files at no charge on the Geocities platform, then offer the files to Yahoo’s users through the Yahoo podcast portal.

For Yahoo users that don’t want to store their files on Geocities, or don’t want the risk of exceeding the free service’s bandwidth cap, Yahoo offers paid podcast hosting through its small business service. For rates that range between $10 and $50 per month, podcast producers can take advantage of Yahoo’s ample bandwidth and reliable servers. By tying the two services together, Yahoo hopes to earn money from podcast hosting while magnetizing users to its podcast portal.

Whether podcast producers host their audio files at Yahoo or at another reliable hosting service, Yahoo’s new podcast portal makes it easy to submit RSS feeds for inclusion on the service. Whether you create podcasts, enjoy them, or both, Yahoo wants to become your podcast hub.

Full Service Audio Post Production for Podcasts

August 12th, 2006

Marketplace Takeout
Full Service Audio Post Production for Podcasts
With radio stations and record companies downsizing over the past few years, professional audio producers faced job cuts and challenges finding freelance projects. However, the surge of businesses and creative professionals requiring full service audio post production has created a new niche for audio professionals. When your podcast audience demands a high quality project, or you simply want your podcast to sound as good as it possibly can, you can easily find the support you need.

When looking for a full service audio post production company to help you with your podcast, consider the following features that various companies might offer:

Price. Regardless of your budget, you can find a full service audio post production company to meet your needs. Taking advantage of the internet, you can often find skilled audio producers that can provide affordable rates because their studios are located outside of major urban centers. For example, full service audio production companies in music-oriented towns like Austin and Chapel Hill will usually cost much less than their competitors in New York or Los Angeles.

Location. Whether you need to work with a local full service audio post production company depends on how much of the raw podcast recording you can do on your own. If you want the very best sounding recording, you will either have to invest in a professional quality microphone or travel to a recording studio. Many online audio producers can walk you through the process of recording your own voice without spending much money. However, if you want the benefit of an experienced recording engineer, you should find a full service audio post production facility close to your home or office.

Production Elements. To make your podcast sound like a professional radio broadcast, request some professional production elements from your full service post production facility. A slick opening sequence, featuring a voice-over from a professional radio air talent, can cost you as little as fifty dollars. Polished promotional messages can help you grow an audience for your podcast, especially if you swap promo segments with other podcast producers. Because these elements do not require your voice, you can shop online to find the best quality at the most competitive price.

Distribution. Depending on your level of technical expertise, you may need a full service audio post production company to post your completed podcasts to a web server. Most companies can provide this service for you at no additional charge, since many audio producers prefer to distribute finished products using file servers anyway.

A must download free ! Avolta Jr Brazilian Music ! [podiocast]

August 10th, 2006

avolta jr - brazil by donato!

Finally Avolta Jr office is back online and this show is a special on Joao Donato who

Avolta Jr spent a week with in London, England, the first that JD had been there since 1965 with Astrud Gilberto!

Donato’s career and influence have been so long and varied that it’s impossible to distill the essence in one show so maybe there’ll be more soon? We start with a couple of tracks from boy genius sanfonista - this choppy accordion style mixed with ‘modern’ stan kenton chords became the basis for bossa nova, as played by Donato’s best pal Joao Gilberto. But Donato had no idea what the bossa nova was - he was living in the USA, but finally got work playing Brasilian music thanks to the sound he helped create in the 50s! Early days in the US had Donato playing with Mongo Santamaria when he left Cal Tjader to go out on his own. A super rare treat from the Osaka Expo 70 Lp with Sergio Mendes created Bossa Rio features here alongside other rarities like Moco Menino with Lisa Ono, Amazon River with Paulo Andre Barata, Eu Quero Um Samba with early 50s group Os Namorados, an early sign of his arranging genius from a 1962 Tito Puente group and a killer Black Rio sound version of Desafinado with Erasmo Carlos, and the hard to find Mulher de 15 Metros instrumental track! More shows very soon!
Enjoy Brazil by Donato!

1. Os Namorados - Eu Quero Um Samba
2. Bossa Rio - Quem Diz Que Sabe
3. Joao Donato - The Frog
4. Joao Donato e Seu Conjunto - Comigo e Assim
5. Paulo Andre - Amazon River
6. Joao Donato - Pretty Dolly
7. Erasmo Carlos - Deasfinado
8. Fabio Fonseca & Joao Donato - Mulher de 15 Metros
9. Joao Donato - Ahie
10. Joao Donato, Bud Shank & Rosinha da Valenca - Sausalito
11. Sexto Sentido & Joao Donato - Vento no Canavial

Credit Counseling Podcasts

August 5th, 2006

Credit Counseling Podcasts
Podcasting allows listeners and producers to connect around topics too narrow for traditional broadcasting. Likewise, traditional broadcasters have started to use podcasts to extend the reach of shows that appeal to small segments of their audiences. Credit counseling is a perfect example of a podcast niche that has grown substantially over the last two years.

As noted financial author Suze Orman has written in her books and spoken about at her live seminars, most Americans avoid talking about their money and their finances, especially when they find themselves in debt. At the same time, credit card customers and mortgage holders who feel like they are in over their head often crave a connection with other people in the same situation.

A variety of credit counseling podcasts allow debtors to share their triumphs and their challenges with each other. With this supportive community as a backdrop, professional credit counselors can offer guidance and advice to consumers that are too nervous or too embarrassed to seek professional credit counseling on their own.

For example, the professional credit counselors at American Consumer Credit Counseling have prepared a series of podcasts that cover core financial skills, such as budgeting, negotiating lower payments, and saving money for the holidays. Meanwhile, the producers of the Debt Podcast cover topics like bankruptcy laws and the credit reporting industry.

Mainstream broadcasters have also found new audiences for their archived shows on credit counseling and other financial issues. Public radio’s Marketplace series offers a free “Takeout” podcast that highlights credit counseling and other personal finance topics. Commercial talk show host Dave Ramsey makes one hour of his daily show available for free, so listeners with credit counseling issues can be inspired by callers who proclaim their freedom from debt on the air.

Of course, since anyone can produce a podcast, it’s also easy for scam artists and shady credit counseling agencies to post questionable content. Make sure that any credit counseling podcasts you subscribe to disclose the sources of their information and their association, if any, with the Consumer Credit Counseling Service of America. Other credit counseling agencies might tout their “non-profit” status, but really exist to pocket exorbitant fees without providing any real service.

By relying on information from legitimate credit counseling podcasts, you can start making better decisions about your own financial future.
