1996 Chicago Bulls

April 18th, 2007

In 1996 the Chicago Bulls reigned supreme and
Michael Jordan was raking in $80 million per year.
Joe Kleine was last on the bench, making the NBA
minimum of $272,250.

Same winning team. Why the 300:1 difference in pay?

Because Michael Jordan was just slightly better
than everyone else.

And because Michael Jordan drives sales of
basketballs, tennis shoes, T-shirts, soft drinks and
toothpaste in Paris, Barcelona, Taipei, Tokyo,
Melbourne, and Davenport Iowa.

Joe Kleine doesn’t.

Thomas Friedman put it like this: “The gap between
first place and second place grows larger, and the
gap between first place and last place becomes
staggering. In many fields there is rarely one winner,
but those near the top get a disproportionate share.

“The potential market for any good or service, for any
singer or songwriter, for any author or actor, for any
doctor or lawyer, for any athlete or academic, now
extends from one end of the world to the other.

“Either you dominate the worldwide market or somebody
else will.”

When you emerge as the winner, as “THE Accounting
Firm”, “THE Doctor”, “THE Salesman”, “THE Basketball
Player”, “THE Man” or “THE Woman” in any particular
field, you can potentially win not only the United States
or Europe, not only Japan or China. You reap
enormous profits and royalties from everywhere.

Don’t miss this:

For almost everyone reading this email, the name
of the game is not being “The Doctor.”

It’s about being The Internal Medicine Specialist for
Patients who are 60 years old and older.

It’s not about being The Lawyer. It’s about being
The Attorney for Industrial and Environmental Tort Law.

You hyper-specialize, so that even on the mighty Internet,
you are a big fish in a little pond. Even in hyper-narrow
niches, if you’re #1 on the Internet, you win, Big-Time.

I can think of no place where this is more clearly seen
than in my own Renaissance Club Roundtable group.
Joe DiSorbo is rapidly becoming the #1 in online product
fulfillment. Julie Brumlik, #1 in skin care. Glenn Livingston
is #1 in online market research. Jeff Hughes, #1 in high-end,
high-touch call centers.

If you’re gunning for the #1 spot in your niche - and
if you qualify - you can be admitted to this group, a
forum where #1 marketers in many realms gather
three times a year and sharpen their games.

It commences in Chicago next month with a 2-Day,
Four-Man marketing intensive. You and three others
will have run of my office, with access to any and every
success tool I’ve got.

The rest of the world and all its distractions will be shut
out. In less than 48 hours, see your web traffic and sales
spike.

A Sad, Sad Day

April 15th, 2007

A Sad, Sad Day

From: John Carlton
Reno, NV (way, way west of Jewfish Creek)

Dear Friend and Subscriber…

This is a tough letter to write. Kevin and Bond Halbert, Gary’s sons, asked me to handle this task, however, and I readily agreed.

Gary Halbert, my good friend and colleague, died peacefully in his sleep Sunday night, April 8, 2007, at home in Miami. The news sent a shockwave across the globe, and the outpouring of sympathy and respect over the loss of this great man has been stunning. For several days, parts of the business world ground to a halt while the realization that this great man was gone sank in.

For now, our main concern is for Gary’s family. There will be a private funeral, and there are many heart-wrenching decisions to be made.

However, because so many people have contacted me, desperate to find out if there is anything they can do… and politely asking if there will be an opportunity to properly memorialize a man who touched so many lives in so many profound ways… I want to share some information.

1. First, Gary’s sons will keep this site active. The archives will be left intact, and you should check here for news on how Gary’s survivors choose to handle his legacy.
2. While the funeral will be private, in a few weeks Gary’s family will host a memorial service in Los Angeles, California. The exact date will be posted here, on this Website, as soon as plans are finalized.
3. If you want to attend this memorial service (or think you might want to), please leave your name and email address below in the “RSVP” section. This is to get an idea of what size building will be required. We’d like to keep it small and intimate, but because so many people felt an intimate bond with Gary, I wouldn’t be surprised if a large number of people attended. It’s not the happiest of circumstances, but I know how important it is to pay your respects to those people who have meant a lot to you. Everyone who knew Gary is invited.
4. People who leave their name and email here will be informed of the exact location of the service as soon as plans are made. At this point, it’s a little unclear how long the family will need before they can make these plans. My best guess is within the next few weeks. Bookmark this site, and watch for announcements.
5. Very important: If you would like to speak at this memorial, be sure to send and email to lamemorial@thegaryhalbertletter.com, and briefly explain your relationship with Gary. The old guy knew and worked with SO many people, it’s impossible for us to know who everyone is. Efforts will be taken to accommodate everyone who should be speaking to do so.
6. Gary’s family is asking his friends and fans to email your personal favorite stories about Gary to rememberinggary@thegaryhalbertletter.com. Write as long or as short a story as you need to. These stories will be gathered, and presented on this site for everyone to share and enjoy. There are no limits to what you can contribute to this effort to remember Gary. Personally, I know that a favorite pastime of Gary’s friends (me included) was to trade tellings of our latest adventures with the Big Guy whenever we got together. He was larger than life, and a joy to hang out with. And the adventures never stopped. There was never a boring day around Gary Halbert, as anyone who has “road dogged” with him knows. Here is your chance to share your favorite memory with his friends and colleagues and fans.
7. Finally… please do not send flowers. Instead, Gary’s sons are setting up a memorial charity fund in Gary’s name with the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. Please check back here, probably next week and we’ll have complete details on how you can contribute in his name.
Gary’s legacy is vast, and covers several decades that include dozens of seminars, twenty years of newsletters, forty years of ads, and more private interviews and private writings than can be counted.

Kevin and Bond will be using this site to communicate with Gary’s fans and friends. And they fully intend to keep it active, while they help history to understand this complex, brilliant, prolifically creative legend.

That’s all for now. More news will be shared as it comes in.

I want to personally thank everyone who took the trouble to email and call me and leave comments on my blog. It helped ease the hurt. I’m sorry I couldn’t get back to everyone who asked for a return call, but I’ll do my best to reach you as soon as I can.

But now, I ask that you email your stories in to this Website, and sign up for info on the fast-approaching memorial service in Los Angeles. Many people wanted to express sympathy and respect directly to Gary’s family, but didn’t know how to do it. Here’s your chance to reach his family directly with your thoughts and prayers. Kevin and Bond will be handling all incoming email personally.

There will be much written about Gary Halbert in the coming months. He was a giant in the advertising world, and will be sorely missed and discussed for a long, long time. As it should be.

I hate it that he’s gone. I’ll miss him for the rest of my days. But I also know that saying goodbye can be a cathartic feeling, and I believe the memorial service will provide that opportunity for those of us who were closest to him.

Sad days.

Be sure to say “I love you” to the people you care about, and treasure each new day as the gift it is.

A great man is gone.

Stay frosty,

John

I watched with great interest the recent trial of
a very popular talk radio host on MSNBC and WFAN ! Mr Don Imus
insulted A University Woman,s Basketball team! Mr Imus used a
very Vulgar Term to describe the woman as Prostitutes !
The term was created by the Rap Music Community and is Broadcasted
hourly as accepted content to the Rap Audience ! Rap music producers have
developed their own semantic jazz and it has been adopted by many African
American as well as white Teen’s as acceptable speech ! Mr.Imus has apologized to his audience as well as the Woman’s Championship basketball
team of African American and White Student’s !
Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson the acknowledged world wide
Watch dog’s for the African American Community lit a
fire as they usually do and have claimed victory since Don Imus was fired
from both Networks ! One African American reporter described Jackson and Sharpton as fire fighters who after the fire is over then pick the victims pockets! To be honest I think that what got Mr Imus fired was Advertisers
pulling out of the show ! Not the flame kindled by Sharpton and Jacksons
Diarrhea of the Mouth !
Imus was of course wrong since what lives in the gutter should stay
in the gutter ! Until what walks in the street , decides to clean up stand up
and walk proudly on the sidewalk!
The Team from Rutgers have chosen to walk as the best of our
American Youth and commented on the incident as Adults ! The Coaches
wined the School Officials winded but the students exhibited adult behavior.

I am sure that in the future Mr.Imus will Pop up on the WWW, as the
Imus in The Morning Video Cast , supported by a fantastic Blog and Social
Network Site and we can all enjoy him for 99 Cents ! This will restore his freedom of speech and give some great content to I Podders !

Joe Taylor Articles on this site [Ma.nolia] [Mac Journal 4.1]

April 2nd, 2007

Dear Reader,

So far, I’ve showed you how you can gain the trust of your
audience using newsletters. You’ve learned how the right
articles on your website can attract new prospects to your
client funnel. And we’ve explored how a weblog can keep your
site fresh and interesting.

Today, I want to show you how you can start to filter all of
that great content you’re creating into a simple, effective
tools that blends the best of all three worlds.

And you’re looking at one right now.

It’s called an “autoresponder sequence,” and professional
marketers use it to serve their very best information to
prospects in an easy, effortless manner.

Using a simple piece of software or an inexpensive web-based
tool, you can send targeted messages to prospects that sign
up for newsletters and special reports on your website. By
offering critical information over the course of a few days
or even a few weeks, you can heighten your audience’s
expectation about what you’ll deliver.

Remember at that start of this series, when I wrote that
multiple exposures to your ideas would help frame you up as
an expert more quickly? Autoresponders can do that for you,
even when you don’t have fresh issues of your newsletter
every week.

By splitting up your report over five or seven issues, your
prospect learns more about you, your products, your
services, and all the ways you can solve their problems.
They also learn that an e-mail with your address in the
“from” field means that they’re going to learn something
useful.

That awareness converts to incredible power later on, when
you update your list with new special offers and promotions.
Instead of suffering through the usual low open rate of
e-mail communications, your messages will reach more members
of your intended audience, because you have trained them to
love hearing from you!

The length of an effective autoresponder sequence varies,
based on the kind of business you run and the type of
product or service you offer. For example, if you want to
sell a paperback book for $17, a quick series of sample
chapters can close some fast sales. On the other hand, a
realtor or a broker that might cultivate a client for months
before closing a deal can benefit from a very long sequence
- one that contacts the prospective client as many as thirty
times over the course of a year.

Autoresponder sequences also let you target niche markets
for your products or services. Even though you might have a
“mothership” site that lists everything that you do for your
customers, you can benefit by setting up standalone sites
that only offer access to a specific special report
sequence. Using your software, you can track which prospects
responded best to which offers - and you can customize your
services accordingly.

Remember that, to be effective, your autoresponder messages
must be sincere, informative, and entertaining. If you start
slamming your prospects with endless sales pitches, they’ll
click the “remove” link and never read another one of your
messages again. Try to balance your copy so that your
informative content leads the way, and segues into gentle
pitches for your services at the end. You’ll have plenty of
time for the hard sell later on.

In our fifth and final installment of this series, I’ll show
you how to tie all of these elements together into a
powerful new source of revenue for you and your business.
It’s simple, it’s effective, and it works - even if you hate
writing.

Until then, please feel free to contact me if we can be of
any service.

Sincerely,
Joe Taylor Jr.
