iPod battery and HDD replacement?
Hey guys I have a iPod 5th gen and my HDD recently died. I’m going to buy a new 1.8″ ZIF HDD from ebay for $30 and a new battery replacement kit for $5 since my battery hardly last for atleast 2 hours.
Anyone know if these cheap ipod battery replacement kits are safe or not? Has anyone purchased an ipod battery in ebay before? Has it worked successfully? I’m feeling a bit skeptic about the price ($5 in ebay vs $20 in reputable sites like ipodjuice.com)
thanks
I have changed the batteries on 3 different iPods with no problems. The tools you get in the eBay kits are pretty flimsy plastic, so treat them carefully. If one breaks/bends, just try to find something in your house that would be shaped the same. I had one break halfway through the opening process, and I just used a butter knife to do it the rest of the way.
It technically voids your warranty if you open it up. I don’t know if they can TELL you opened it, once you have closed it again. The actual battery replacement is not hard at all. There will be instructions in the kit.
I have no idea about hard drives though – I’ve only done battery replacements. (I believe it was on an iPod 3G, 5.5G, and Nano 2G that I’ve done them. I would not do it with my Touch 2G though – I believe it’s a different process.)
