Ipod touch restarts computer?

I have 2 HP computers, both running on Windows XP. When I have my computer on, and my little sister plugs in her ipod touch, the computer always restarts itself, sometimes it fails, the screen goes black with white words that say that Windows is having a problem restarting, and I have to enter the option that says START WINDOWS NORMALLY or something. The ipod did the same thing to my cousin’s laptop, which was also HP. Is it that the ipod has a virus? Or that Windows and Apple products don’t function together correctly?

Just for kicks, try something. Get or borrow a powered USB hub. Connect it to the computer, make sure its power supply is connected, and plug the iTouch into it. I’ve been noticing some strange things lately when plugging things that need power into a USB port that;s not powered. If that fixes it, it’s not the iPod. (I have no idea yet what it is. A bad Windows update? The phase of the moon? All I know is that supplying external power helps in some cases.)
